Land-Surveyor-In-Training (L.S.I.T.)

Location: California (with travel throughout the state and other states as required)
Summary: The Land-Surveyor-in-Training (L.S.I.T.) Project Surveyor will be part of a team responsible for the day-to-day performance of various land surveying and mapping projects across several industries. The role involves supporting field surveying and developing technical documents and other mapping products to meet budgets, deadlines, and quality standards set by clients and management. The ideal candidate will be an experienced survey technician proficient in both field and office survey tasks, certified as a Land-Surveyor-in-Training, with a working knowledge of the workflows involved in the Land Surveying industry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work independently alongside a California Licensed Surveyor on various types of survey projects related to infrastructure and land development, including Boundary Surveys, Topographical Surveys, Terrestrial & Mobile Laser Scanning, Legal Descriptions, Survey Control Networks, Aerial Mapping, Construction Staking, As-built Surveys & Mapping, GIS services, and other survey/mapping exhibits.
- Assist with production tasks such as conducting field surveys, boundary research, GPS post-processing, Civil3D linework generation, quality reviews, etc.
- Lead and participate in a field survey crew as either a party chief, instrument person, or other role required to complete various survey projects safely and timely.
- Take an active role in workplace safety by participating in and conducting field safety meetings (tailboards).
- Manage and track Key Performance Indicators (KPI) established by management.
- Participate in Survey user group meetings and project kick-off meetings as required.
- Perform other incidental and related survey duties as required.
- Travel throughout California and other states in support of field survey projects while maintaining company assets such as vehicles, survey equipment, and gear.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- When acting as the lead on a survey field crew (Party Chief), supervise other members of the survey crew for safety, quality, and performance standards.
- There are no direct reports associated with this position.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (discipline in survey, engineering, or other closely related field of study).
- 5+ years of experience working on land survey or related Geospatial projects.
- Land-Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certification is REQUIRED.
- Advanced and experienced user of AutoCAD Civil3D, Trimble Business Center (TBC), and other common mapping and survey processing software packages.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office to produce and edit professional documents.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record REQUIRED.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
- Frequently/Continually required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
- Frequently/Continually required to talk or hear.
- Occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds (loading/unloading equipment & opening manhole/vault covers).
- General good health, fitness, vision, and hearing are required to perform all aspects of this job.
- Frequently/Continually work around traffic, exhaust fumes, airborne dust, etc.
- Frequently/Continually exposed to outside weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind).
- Regional travel could be required.
- Position requires a dedicated home office and workstation with high-speed internet to accommodate remote work and collaborative virtual meetings. Computer workstation resources provided by GIS.
